Spurs star among eight nominees for Premier League award

Son Heung-min has been nominated for the Premier League‘s EA Sports Player of the Season award.

Son has had his most productive season in front of goal since moving to Tottenham in 2015, having amassed 21 goals and nine assists in the Premier League so far this campaign (Transfermarkt).

Following his strike in Tottenham’s 3-0 win in the North London Derby, the South Korean is just one behind Mohamed Salah in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot (Premierleague.com).

The 29-year-old was visibly distraught when he was replaced by Steven Bergwijn in the 72nd minute against Arsenal, with the forward seemingly sensing the opportunity to add to his goal tally against a Gunners side, who were reduced to ten men.

It is not just the Golden Boot that Son is in contention for, but also the Player of the Season award.

The Tottenham forward has now been named in the eight-man shortlist for the award alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jarrod Bowen, Joao Cancelo, Kevin De Bruyne, Bukayo Saka, Mohamed Salah and James Ward-Prowse.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Son deserves this nomination and given the form he is in, I would expect him to win the Golden Boot ahead of Salah.

However, I do not think he stands a chance of winning the Player of the Year award as the prize generally goes to a player from the team who have won the Premier League title.

We saw Kane missing out on the award last year to De Bruyne despite finishing with the most goals and most assists in the division.
