Harry Kane broke the record for the most goals by an England player in a calendar year after netting four in the Three Lions’ win over San Marino on Monday.
Gareth Southgate admitted before Monday’s clash that Kane was keen to be involved against San Marino on the back of his hat-trick against Albania.
It was evident why the 28-year-old wanted to start as the Three Lions thrashed San Marino 10-0, with Kane adding four more to his tally.
The seven goals over the international break have taken the Tottenham man’s international tally to 48, leaving him just one behind Bobby Charlton and five behind Wayne Rooney’s all-time record.
However, that is not the only milestone the striker reached as he also broke the record for most goals in a year by any England player.
In addition, Kane also became the first England player to score back-to-back hat-tricks since 1957 and the first player since 1993 to score 4 goals in a game.

Spurs Web Opinion
Kane’s numbers both and the club and international level are quite extraordinary and the striker deserves much more respect than he gets.
While Spurs fans certainly appreciate him (notwithstanding his form this season), I suspect Kane will only get the recognition he deserves from neutrals and England fans once he hangs up his boots.
