Spurs star claims Neymar is best player in the world – But he wants to overtake him

Tottenham forward Heung-min Son believes Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar is the best player in the world and admits he is trying hard to reach that mantle.

Son enjoyed his most productive Premier League season to date for Spurs as he scored 23 goals to share the Golden Boot with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

He almost took home the award on his own on the final day of the campaign with a double at Norwich, but Salah’s late goal against Wolves ensured the prize had to be split.

With club football now in the off-season, all eyes have shifted onto the international scene with players expected to link up with their countries over the next couple of weeks.

For Son, he is set to join the South Korea squad to get ready for Thursday’s friendly with Brazil at the Seoul World Cup Stadium, before games against Chile and Paraguay respectively.

Ahead of his side’s tie against the Selecao, Son heaped plenty of praise onto fellow forward Neymar, who scored 13 goals as PSG claimed the Ligue 1 title back off Lille this season (Transfermarkt).

The Spurs man claimed the 30-year-old is the best player in the world and suggested he is ‘working hard’ to succeed him at the top of the pile.

Son said (via Football Daily): “Neymar is the best player in the world, and I think I am working hard to become the best player in the best player in the world.

“Brazil has a lot of really good players, and I think if our players do their best, to show what we have to show in the game, then we can get a good result. Brazil has a lot of world class players.

“Our players are also very much looking forward to the match itself and I think the most important thing is to play a good game by putting all our efforts into the match, to show our best in front of a lot of fans.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Neymar has been towards the top end of players for a number of years now but his talent has almost been forgotten because of PSG’s shortcomings on the European stage.

It is interesting that Son picked Neymar in particular as the best player in the world currently, but he obviously appreciates his ability to make things happen in spite of the talk against the quality of Ligue 1.
