Spurs star hints at fractured dressing room after Dinamo defeat

Hugo Lloris has suggested that there is a lack of togetherness in the Tottenham Hotspur squad on the back of the club’s embarrassing elimination from the Europa League at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb.

The Europa League was seen by many as Spurs’ best hope of getting into next season’s Champions League, with some pundits even suggesting that the club should put all their eggs in the Europa League basket instead of focusing on the Premier League top four.

However, Tottenham’s hopes of going to the latter stages of the competition came to an abrupt end last night after the away side threw away a 2-0 lead from the first leg.

Jose Mourinho has tended to rotate his squad a fair bit over the last few weeks and it has worked for the most part.

However, almost no Spurs player came out of the game against Zagreb with any credit considering there was a profound lack of attitude and desire from the North Londoners.

After the game, Lloris accused members of the squad of not pulling their weight and admitted that the team is not as tight-knit a group as they were in previous years.

The Spurs captain told BT Sport: “The way we play is just not enough. It’s one thing to come in front of the camera to say that I’m ambitious.

“It’s another thing to show it every day in training sessions, to show it every time on the pitch. You can’t let it down if you play or don’t play.

“To behave as a team is the most difficult thing in football. Whatever the decision of the manager [is], you have to follow the way of the team.

“If you follow the team only when you’re in the starting 11, that causes a big problem for the team because in one moment you’re going to pay in your season. And today is the consequence of that.

“We had great moments in the past because we could trust the togetherness that was in the team. Today, I don’t know. I’m not sure about that.”

That is a pretty damning indictment from Hugo and hearing those words from someone of his experience suggests that all is not well behind the scenes at the club. It is difficult to see how we can bounce back from Thursday’s set back.
