Spurs star insists fans will see ‘old Kane’ after squad went into ‘beast mode’ training

Toby Alderweireld has shot a warning to Tottenham’s upcoming opponents and left Spurs fans salivating by revealing that Harry Kane is looking as sharp as he ever has.

The striker has not been involved in competitive action since injuring his hamstring on New Year’s Day against Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium.

Alderweireld feels that the extended time off has allowed the striker to get back to his optimal fitness levels.

Speaking about the England captain, the Belgian international told The Guardian: “In training, he looks fully fit, top fit, so we’re going to see the old Kane again.

“He has been out for a longer period so his desire to show everyone is unbelievable, so you’re going to see a very good Kane.”

Alderweireld also revealed that the Tottenham squad were focused on getting as fit as they could during the lockdown and thus insisted that match fitness will not be a problem for the players when action resumes this week.

The centre-back said: “Everyone went into ‘beast mode’ – training, training. We didn’t know when we were going back.

“Maybe the week after, two weeks after. So people think we were on holiday but we sure weren’t.

“When we were back training we felt like: ‘I’m ready,’ not like in pre-season when it’s: ‘Oh, I have to start all over again, I feel muscle pain’.”

The 31-year-old also insisted that the team are targeting nine wins from nine to help them seal a top-four place.

The Spurs defender added: “I know it’s a cliche but it’s nine games and we have to see it as nine finals.

“We have to get good momentum and the first is a very big game. We are going to do everything we can to reach the top four.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is good to hear that the squad trained hard to maintain their fitness during the lockdown. Players are likely going to take a couple of games to get back into the rhythm of playing matches. Match fitness will have a huge bearing on our first few results. Hopefully, we have an edge over the likes of Man Utd and West Ham on the fitness front.
