Spurs star insists the team do care about the cups, despite Poch’s comments

Tottenham Hotspur tumbled out both domestic cups over the past week, leaving them involved in just the two competitions now this season.

Spurs were first defeated in the Carabao Cup semi final second leg at Stamford Bridge by Chelsea, with the Blues winning the tie on penalties.

To rub salt in the wound, Tottenham then faced another away London Derby against Crystal Palace, a game they would go on to lose 2-0.

Pochettino chose to field a significantly weakened team, partly down to injuries, partly through choice to rest star players.

This means Tottenham have gone from four competitions to just the two in a matter of days this season.

Pochettino’s post match comments implied that he is not focused on winning cups at Tottenham, but building a team that can win big titles like the Prem and Champions League (Guardian).

However, Spurs winger Erik Lamela insists the squad do care about the cup competitions.

Lamela said (Standard): “No, we care. We care about every competition. We care about every game. We want to win every time we go on the pitch. At Palace we lost and are out. They scored two in the first half and then it was difficult.

“I think in the second half we played more but it wasn’t to be. It’s another game on Wednesday [against Watford] and we need to be focused on that.”
