Spurs star named in Garth Crooks’ team of the week – Room for improvement highlighted

One Spurs star made it into Garth Crooks’ team of the week after his performance against Bournemouth, and there are no prizes for guessing who.

Dele Alli joins Crooks’ starting XI for back-to-back weeks in the Premier League, impressing against both West Ham and the Cherries.

Even in between those games, Alli won the man of the match award against Olympiacos in the Champions League on Tuesday too.

Against Bournemouth, Dele scored both of Tottenham’s opening goals, before creating Sissoko’s by setting Sonny free down the left-hand side.

Alli looks to be coming on leaps and bounds under Jose Mourinho, as he looks to get back to his best in a Tottenham shirt after some wayward seasons.

Garth Crooks praised Alli for his weekend performance, but did add that there is still work for him to do, as he would have scored a hat-trick if he was at his very best.

Crooks said (BBC): ‘The mere fact that Alli has appeared in my team of the week in consecutive weeks and had a memorable match in midweek against Olympiakos tells its own story.

‘It looks like the kid is back. Every time he receives the ball it feels like something is about to happen. That feeling has been absent in his game for some time. Against Bournemouth, he should have had a hat-trick and would have done if he was at his very best, so there is still some work for him to do. It does look like Mourinho is starting to have an effect.’
