Spurs star nominated for Champions League player of the week despite Leipzig loss

Tottenham Hotspur fell to a 1-0 defeat at home to RB Leipzig in North London last night, as their hopes of reaching the next round of the Champions League were dented.

Leipzig managed to earn a clean sheet and an away goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, giving them a distinct advantage heading into the second-leg in Germany.

Spurs were without their two leading scorers in Harry Kane and Heung Min Son on the night, as both required surgery to fix respective injuries.

The Lilywhites lacked a real bite up front as a result and found it difficult to pepper the Leipzig goal, despite a home advantage.

The Bundesliga side had no such problems, as they put Tottenham under pressure from the word go, firing shot after shot at Hugo Lloris’ goal.

If not for the Frenchman, the visitors would have surely taken the lead far sooner than they eventually did.

As a result, Lloris has now been shortlisted as a potential Champions League player of the week.
