Spurs star reacts to scoring his first international goal after less than one minute

Pape Matar Sarr has taken to social media to admit his delight at scoring his first goal for Senegal, in their 4-0 win over South Sudan.

Sarr has arguably been the surprise package of the season so far at Tottenham, with the midfielder, who hardly got any game time under Antonio Conte last season, establishing himself as a mainstay in Ange Postecoglou’s starting eleven.

In fact, some might even argue that Rodrigo Bentancur is not guaranteed to walk into the starting eleven even when he is fully fit and able to play 90 minutes, given the consistency that Sarr has displayed.

The 21-year-old took his club form to the international scene, guiding Senegal to a thumping win over South Sudan in the World Cup qualifiers on Sunday.

The Tottenham man opened the scoring with less than a minute on the clock as he produced a rasping low drive from the edge of the box that found the bottom corner.

Sadio Mane then got a brace while Lamine Camera also got on the scoresheet in what was a memorable afternoon for the home side at the Diamniadio Olympic Stadium in Dakar.

This strike will help Sarr cement his place in Senegal’s starting eleven (if he had not done so already) and would do wonders for the youngster’s confidence.
