Spurs star reveals he has had three injuries in the same place now this season

Eric Dier has revealed his recent thigh injury was the third time in which the problem has arisen this season.

Dier has missed seven games for Spurs since the turn of the year, with appearances coming in the win at Watford on New Year’s Day and the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea towards the end of January.

Despite the 28-year-old playing the full match against the Blues, it emerged that he had suffered another injury that sidelined him through and beyond the international break.

But Dier was deemed fit enough to return to the Spurs team to face Manchester City on Saturday and he showed why Antonio Conte previously backed him to become one of the best defenders in the world (Daily Mail).

The England international powered his side to a stellar 3-2 win at the Premier League leaders to keep Spurs firmly in the fight for a Champions League place come the end of term.

Dier has since opened up on his comeback from injury, to which he has revealed that it was the third time the problem has occurred this season/

He also admitted that he is now ‘doing everything possible’ to stay fit to boost Tottenham’s chances of having a strong end to the season.

Dier told Football.London: “Very frustrating to not be able to take advantage of our winter break to take care of my thigh was very frustrating because I came back and started training again after that winter break.

“It caused me problems again so I took a bit more time this time given it’s actually the third time it’s happened this season, so I gave it a bit more time this time and hopefully that will benefit me and my thigh and hopefully that will be the end of it now.

“I’m doing everything possible to be able to be fit and obviously focusing on staying fit, longevity in this sport is very important and something I’m very focused on so I’m doing everything possible.”

Dier’s return against City showed that Spurs have desperately missed him in the heart of defence. He brought about leadership that the defence needed and was key in organising the back line against the best team in the country. Now it is important that he isn’t overworked or doesn’t overexert himself to keep him available to play.
