Spurs starlet shortlisted for Player of the Month award for third time in seven months

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that academy starlet Dilan Markanday has been shortlisted for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for October.

Markanday, a technically gifted attacking midfielder, who prefers playing on the right flank, has been on fire for the Club’s Under-23s this season.

The silky left-footer has already bagged 10 goals in 10 appearances in Premier League 2 so far, along with two assists. That included a brace in the Under-23’s victory at Manchester City and a stoppage-time winner at home to Manchester United.

The 20-year-old was rewarded for his run of form by being handed his senior debut for Tottenham last month in their Europa Conference League clash away at Vitesse Arnhem.

By doing so, he became the first-ever British Asian, as well as the first player of Indian descent, to play for the Lilywhites first-team in a competitive game.

Markanday was previously nominated for the Premier League 2 award in April and August of this year, with this being his third nomination in seven months.

Spurs Web Opinion

Markanday is certainly knocking on the door of the first-team and one would have expected him to get a few more opportunities in the Europa Conference League this season.

However, I would expect us to take the competition much more seriously after Conte’s arrival and I suspect the Italian will look to field his strongest team as often as possible.
