Spurs striker hints at possible exit

Fernando Llorente has hinted that he would welcome a return to Spain before his playing career ends.

The 33-year-old joined Tottenham Hotspur from Swansea City during last summer’s transfer window after beating Chelsea to his signature.

His contract at Spurs expires this summer and is keen to play his football once again in his native LaLiga.

There were high hopes that Llorente could help relieve Harry Kane of his goalscoring burden at the club, but has failed to make an impact on a regular basis.

He did prove to play an important part in Tottenham’s comeback against PSV Eindhoven last night at Wembley by assisting Harry Kane for the first of his two goals.

In stark contrast, the former Juventus player scored fifteen goals during his first season in the top flight with Swansea City.

Llorente has previously played in LaLiga for Athletic Bilbao and Sevilla, but did not reveal a preferred destination.

He told FourFourTwo: “I’ve been away from home for many years, I’d love to go back to LaLiga.”

When asked about his performance against PSV, he added: “I came on and things went well, so I’m happy to have helped the team,”

“I hope I continue to have opportunities, it’s important for me because it gives me the confidence to keep working, it’s not easy when you do not play because mentally you have to be very strong to continue training hard.”
