Spurs striker move ruled out

Despite on-going speculation Spurs have no plans to move for Anthony Martial according to ESPN (www.espn.com)

The report says that United boss Jose Mourinho is open to the ideal of off-loading Martial but not to a Premier League rival, and the article says its expected that Spurs are unlikely to pursue a deal for the Frenchman as it stands.

The article adds that there is great hope at Hotspur Way of securing the signature of 22-year-old Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish, as the championship club have a need to meet Financial Fair Play regulations, but it does reveal that talks have reached stalemate.

It goes on to say that Spurs are keen to boost their homegrown contingent as we currently only have seven homegrown players so we would only be able to name a 24-man squad in the Premier League, rather than 25.

They ramifications could be huge as it stands we would have to omit three foreign players from their Champions League squad because Welshman Ben Davies and Eric Dier count as overseas players, having come through the ranks at clubs outside England.

ESPN FC believe the delay is partly due to Spurs’ desire to wait for their top-six rivals to make their moves, to avoid bidding wars against wealthier clubs with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino suggested earlier this week that Tottenham have been waiting for movement elsewhere.

“It’s a market that has only started to move very quickly after the World Cup and then this season the transfer window closes on 9 August,”: he said. “Be sure that we are going to do some movement but like always, we’re working hard, no rash decisions. I’m not worried.”
