‘Spurs struggle when’ – Ex-Arsenal man has Champions League warning for Conte

Former Arsenal star, Samir Nasri, has a warning for Tottenham ahead of their Champions League opener against Marseille, as the Frenchman suggested his former club could cause problems for Conte’s side thanks to their style of play.

Spurs host the French giants in the opening game of their Champions League campaign on Wednesday night. It’s a night many fans have dreamed of, with the North London club returning to the top tier of European football for the first time since the 2019/20 season.

Antonio Conte leads his men into the competition for the first time, and Spurs go into the game against Marseille in good form. The Lilywhites are currently unbeaten in the Premier League and will be hoping to carry that momentum into this fixture.

Marseille, however, are also unbeaten in their first six games of the Ligue 1 season. With five wins and a draw so far, they sit just behind PSG in the table after a promising start to their campaign.

With former Gunners players like Nuno Tavares, Matteo Guendouzi, and Alexis Sanchez in their ranks, the French side will also have plenty of motivation to upset Spurs on Wednesday.

When speaking to Canal+ (04/09/22 – via GFFN), Nasri warned Conte and his players not to underestimate their opponents.

He said: “Spurs struggle when they have to play ball, they are more a transition team. So there might be something to be done there for OM.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Any team that qualifies for the Champions League has to be taken seriously, and Marseille are going to be a very tough opponent on Wednesday.

While Spurs will undoubtedly be the favourites for the clash, we can expect a challenging game as two very different styles of play come up against one another. Hopefully, the atmosphere in North London will be enough to carry the lads through this one.
