Spurs suffer Eriksen blow ahead of Cyprus trip

Maurico Pochettino’s Champions League plans were dealt a severe blow as in-form playmaker Christian Eriksen, who is ruled out of the lilywhites clash with Cypriot side Apoel on Tuesday night.

Eriksen did not travel with the rest of the squad and joins an extensive list of absentees including Dele Alli, Jan Vertonghen (suspended) Mousa Dembele, Victor Wanyama & Danny Rose.

A victory is crucial for Tottenham, who really need a maximum of six points from their two encounters with the Cypriots to give them every chance of progressing to the next round of the competition.

According to the Daily Mail, Pochettino warned there will be no excuses despite the influential Dane’s absence: “Christian is a very important player for us, it’s true we will miss him but we need to move on. We need to find a way to play and perform and try to win”

Pochettino went on to say “He is ill he stays in London and we trust the player who will come in to his position. I am not a manager who cries because a player cannot play.It is key to win and there are no excuses. We must win. We have a strong squad and this is a good opportunity to show it”
