Spurs suffer injury blow as senior player is out for at least six weeks

Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a major injury blow following news that Hugo Lloris is expected to be sidelined for the next six to eight weeks with a knee injury, according to The Telegraph.

The goalkeeper sustained the injury to his knee ligament during the 1-0 win over Premier League champions Manchester City and initial fears suggested that he could miss the rest of the season.

Lloris does not require surgery on the injury at this stage and the club are optimisic that he could return to action within a six to eight-week period.

The World Cup winner managed to play the full 90 minutes of the win against Pep Guardiola’s side, but did receive treatment on his knee during the match from the club’s medical team.

Lloris’ place in the starting eleven will now be taken by Fraser Forster, who joined the north Londoners during the summer after his contract at Southampton came to an end.

The 36-year-old will miss a number of important fixtures beginning with Saturday’s trip to Leicester City in the Premier League, along with the Champions League round of 16 double header against AC Milan.

Despite Lloris having experienced an indifferent season with form issues, this is a big blow to Tottenham’s hopes of a top four finish. Thankfully, Fraser Forster is an experienced goalkeeper who has also experienced Champions League football during his time north of the border at Celtic.
