Spurs suffer injury blow in the opening minutes at Wolves

Tottenham Hotspur have suffered yet another injury blow during the opening two minutes of this evening’s match against Wolves in the Premier League.

Mousa Dembele is the player who was left writing in against on the Molineux turf after he injured his ankle.

Spurs left-back Ben Davies put in a strong tackle on Helder Costa and as the Wolves player fell to the ground, his body caught Dembele’s right ankle.

The powerful midfielder looked in pain and had to be helped back to the dressing room with the assistance of the Spurs medical staff. It was an even more worrying sight when he was subsequently placed on the St John’s Ambulance stretcher.

Dembele will now be considered as a serious doubt for Tuesday night’s vital Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven at Wembley. He is now expected to undergo scans on his ankle over the next 24 hours, dependent on how bad the swelling is.

Frustratingly, the injury occurred on the 31-year-old’s 250th appearance in a Tottenham shirt.
