Spurs suffer second striker blow of transfer deadline day

Real Sociedad have put out an official statement confirming that they will not allow Willian Jose to leave the club today.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Jose for the past few weeks and a report in The Independent on Thursday suggested that the club will make a renewed bid for the striker after their initial £10 million offer was rejected by Real Sociedad.

It was claimed that the striker, who missed club’s 3-1 home win over Osasuna on Wednesday night, was desperate to join Tottenham before the transfer window shuts on Friday.

However, the La Liga club have now put out a statement confirming that they will not be selling any other player apart from midfielder Ruben Pardo before the transfer window shuts.

This blow comes just after news broke that Olivier Giroud is unlikely to join Spurs today after Chelsea decided against letting him go owing to their failure to land a replacement for the Frenchman (The Athletic’s David Ornstein).

With Giroud and Jose both looking extremely unlikely to arrive, it does look like Spurs are in an extremely desperate situation. If we do not land a striker before the transfer window shuts in a few hours, major questions will be asked of Daniel Levy. It has been clear right from the beginning that a No.9 was our most urgent requirement.
