Spurs summer signing says he is loving work with ‘perfectionist’ Conte

Clement Lenglet has admitted that he is enjoying working with Antonio Conte and the Italian is helping him to improve as a player.

Lenglet had fallen out of favour at Barcelona in the 12 months before his loan switch to Spurs, and some eyebrows were raised when Tottenham snapped up the Frenchman on loan this summer.

However, he has made a fairly promising start to life in the Premier League, having put in some solid displays at left centre-back – a position that he has shared with Ben Davies so far this season.

Even though Tottenham do not have the option to buy Lenglet permanently, Alasdair Gold suggested in a Q&A on Football.London that the centre-back wants to stay and become a success in the Premier League.

Whether his stay at Spurs proves to be temporary or not, the Frenchman certainly appears to be enjoying his time under Conte.

He told Sky Sports’ Football Daily about the Tottenham head coach: “I’m really happy to work with him, he’s a really competitive guy, he wants to win every moment.”

“As a football player and a man it’s really interesting to be in his side. I can improve a lot, he’s a perfectionist.

“As a perfectionist, he wants the best from his players and, for me, it’s the perfect time to be here to improve myself and give my best for the club.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Lenglet certainly has not let Conte down whenever he has been handed an opportunity but it is too soon to judge the Frenchman.

I suspect that he has to do exceedingly well in order to convince Spurs to sign him permanently as the Lilywhites will likely reignite their interest in Bastoni or Gvardiol next summer.
