Spurs taking it day by day by Woodgate

Harry Redknapp has admitted that it’s ‘make or break’ for Jonathan Woodgate.

The Tottenham defender has not played since November due to a troublesome groin injury and his contract expires at the end of the upcoming season.

New Premier League rules state that each team must name a 25-man squad for the season, which could further hamper the 30-year-old’s chance of regular football.

“It’s make or break for Jonathan now,” Redknapp told the Daily Telegraph.

“He has got to come back and play. If he is not ready for the start of the season it will be difficult for him. When he gets his boots on and starts playing hopefully he will be all right.

“He is a fantastic player: one of the best centre-halves around. We just take it day by day with him and see how he progresses.”

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. this makes me think its definately time to step into the market for a centre half. with woodgate and king struggling through the last campaign we were short. i know we had cover in dawson and bassong, but it just takes a knock to one of them and we're really struggling. get a few games out of woodgate, sell him on! use king when we can. build a defensive partnership round dawson. kaboul aint the answer. i think bassong is good as cover-up. if we get a decent centre half and striker then we could really compete!

  2. Good luck woody no matter what happens and I pray it ends in you playing *gain for spurs and no doubt england if your playin for spurs you will always be loved and thanked for beating chelsea with that header! Woodgate legend!
