Spurs target is compared to Bale by man who worked with both players

Tottenham have been linked with Ryan Sessegnon for the last several transfer windosw but a move has never materialised. After a disappointing start to the season, the 18-year-old now seems like he is getting accustomed to Premier League football.

While great things are expected of the wide-man, he is yet to really hit the heights in the top flight. Huw Jennings, who is the head of Fulham’s academy, has no doubts that Sessegnon will go on to become a great player.

Jennings who worked at Southampton when Gareth Bale came through the ranks, reckons there are parallels between Bale’s early struggles at Spurs and Sessegnon’s struggles this season.

Speaking to the Sunday People, 17/03, page 54, Jennings said, “Ryan, by his own admission, is finding it tougher at the moment. I’ve had the privilege to work with Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott, Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

“All of those guys have had hurdles to overcome. Gareth was saddled with the fact that Spurs never won when he was in the team early on. It’s how they deal with it that sets them apart. Ryan will come through this tricky patch.”

Now with Fulham looking likely to go down this season, Sessegnon could be open to moving at the end of the season. It will be interesting to see if Spurs return for the player at the end of the season.
