Spurs target Spain World Cup star

According to The Sun, Spurs have joined Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to sign Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba.

Alba has two years left on his contract with the Catalan club however talks over an extension are not thought to be in process, to the player’s frustration.

Danny Rose’s future remains unclear with the full back making just 10 Premier League appearances in the last campaign as Ben Davies impressed and speaking of his desire to return north,

However the signing of Alba would provide an additional attacking threat down the left flank of Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The article goes on to say that Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea are also thought to be interested and
according to AS.com, Alba has a €60million release clause in his contract at Barcelona, which could make the deal a realistic possibility.

Much has been made of United’s left-back situation with Luke Shaw an outcast at Old Trafford and Ashley Young adopting the role well but isn’t getting any younger but, like with Spurs, Alba would certainly be an upgrade on what they currently have.

Chelsea do have Marcos Alonso was one of their best players last season at left wing-back but he , was pipped by Alba and Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal in Spain’s World Cup squad.

He has played every minute of Spain’s World Cup campaign so far as the 2010 winners look to regain their title from Germany.
