Spurs Technical Director says two players should be ‘very proud’ after leaving the club

Johan Lange has praised Eric Dier and Hugo Lloris for their contributions at Tottenham Hotspur, insisting that both players can be proud of what they achieved at the club.

The departures of Dier and Lloris felt like the end of an era at Spurs, with both players being one of the last remnants of the peak years under Mauricio Pochettino (with Ben Davies and Son Heung-min now being the only ones still at the club from that era).

While Lloris had been at Tottenham for 11 and a half years and had captained the side for the majority of that time, Ḍier had also spent nearly a decade at the North London side, having arrived at the club at the tender age of 20 from Sporting Lisbon.

While Lloris will now begin a new adventure in Major League Soccer with Los Angeles FC, Dier has reunited with Harry Kane at Bayern Munich, with the centre-back making a strong start to his time at the Allianz Arena following his switch a couple of weeks ago.

A fond farewell to Lloris and Dier

When asked about the departures of the two long-serving stars, Lange has told Tottenham’s official channel: “I think for both of those players, they have been part of very successful teams here. They have been part of writing some of the best moments in recent years which they should be very proud of.

“For Hugo, I think starting a new chapter together with his family in LA. He had a very well-deserved sending-off at the stadium which I know he appreciated and his family and the club and the fans appreciated that opportunity to say goodbye to one of the greatest players in recent years.

“The same for Eric, I know a different new challenge at Bayern Munich competing for the German championship. Both of them have been fantastic servants for the club and we wish them all the best for the future.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While neither Lloris nor Dier left the club on a high, with their reputations being slightly tarnished by their struggles during their last 12 months at the club, there is no doubt that they have both been amazing, selfless servants for the club and model professionals.
