Tottenham Hotspur are reported to have made an £8million offer for West Ham defender Matthew Upson.

According to the Daily Mirror, Harry Redknapp has decided that Upson is the man to help solve the central defensive crisis following injuries to Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate.  Sebastien Bassong is also on international duty at the African Cup of Nations in January.

Spurs are said to be ready to use Alan Hutton and David Bentley as bait for a deal – but Spurs want to recoup the majority of the £15million they spent on Bentley 18 months ago.

Earlier in the week, West Ham midfielder Scott Parker was linked with a move to White Hart Lane.
