Luka Modric - Tottenham Hotspur News

Tottenham turned down a £40million bid from Chelsea for wantaway midfielder Luka Modric on Tuesday, according to manager Harry Redknapp.

The Croatia international has been the subject of intense speculation this summer linking him with a move away from north London.

Such talk was fuelled further by the player himself after Modric admitted he would like to leave White Hart Lane for pastures new, preferably Stamford Bridge.

As a result, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy issued a statement insisting Modric was not for sale at any price and Redknapp has confirmed the midfielder will be staying put.

“The chairman stood firm over Luka,” he told Sky Sports News. “I think £40million was apparently offered yesterday. Whether that is true or not, it is what I heard.

“It is a big offer to turn down, that’s for sure. I am delighted the little man is still here and hopefully he will have a great season for us.”

Asked whether he will be able to get his head straight, Redknapp added: “Yeah, for sure. He has got two international games this week. There’s good competition.

“Sandro is getting fit, Scott Parker has arrived, Tom Huddlestone. We’ve got good players in the middle of the park so we’re looking forward to it now.”

  1. If any player wants to leave let them – for whatever reason or however good they are. Would rather have no one than a player who doesn’t want to be there… brings the whole team down and we dont need that in the dressing room…. NO player is bigger than a club.

  2. This is a great move by Redknapp and Levy. Modric is a world class midfielder – we needed to hang onto our best players because there was no way we could replace them. If chelsea bought Modroc, they would be strengthened as a team and we would be weakened. Now Modric can knuckle down and prove his quality. The best signings of the summer: keeping Modric, Bale and Van Der Vaart.

  3. All bloody summer Harry was talking about we need 3 or 4 players, what the hell did he do this summer nothing apart parker, wow like that is really going to help back in the top 4, are defence is rubbis we concede like flies and adebayor yeah im happy with but least another striker and a central defender, i hate to say it but arsenal pulled of metesacker, santos, arteta and benayoun. Hopefully though we start playing good football and in january another add another 2 players a central defence and maybe a right winger cause lennon doesn't know how to cross the ball, we should of gone after adam johnson

  4. I am glad Daniel Levy stood firm players should be made to understand about contracts and if the players heart is no longer in it he should be docked his pay and stuck in the reserves A life long Spurs fan

  5. most football fans know shit about what goes down in a club but pay 50 odd aquid a game to watch swankers on grands a week.Apart from the fact they ain't got a life they come on here and write bollocks.
the one good thing levy did was show to chelsea that we still intend being a big club.
    its about who we were

  6. YOU ARE INSINE, BECUASE YOU HAVE TO ALLOW THE PLAYER TO LEAVE THERE IF YOU DO'T KNOW WHAT THE PLAYER IS, YOU MUST STEP DOWN SO LET US KNOW WHAT CHELSEA SEARCHES FOR MODRIC IF MODRIS LEAVE SPURS HOW THE SITUATION WILL BE, REDKNAPP AND CHAIRMAN DANIAL LEVY ARE ENEMY OF CHELSEA
