Opinion: Our prediction for Tottenham’s Champions League group stage campaign

Tottenham Hotspur got up and running in the Champions League yesterday evening as they faced an away trip to Olympiacos in Greece.

While Spurs managed to go 2-0 inside the first half, they were unable to hang onto the lead and ended up drawing the match 2-2.

On the night, this felt like a huge two points dropped for Spurs, but an away result against a tough opponent is never a bad thing and Tottenham already have more points than they did at this stage last season.

With five games in the group to go for Spurs, we are going to take a look at each one and predict our scores…

Tottenham vs Bayern Munich

Definitely Spurs’ toughest opponent in the group and Poch would have liked to come into the game off the back of a win in Greece. Bayern dismantled Red Star 3-0 in their opening game and you would expect them to fight Spurs for the group top spot.

Prediction: Tottenham 2-1 Bayern Munich

Tottenham vs Red Star Belgrade

This is the first of two back-to-back matches against Red Star in the group, which I think is the best draw to get in terms of the team you play twice in a row. As the bottom seed side, Spurs will be looking for two victories to get them going.

Prediction: Tottenham 3-0 Red Star Belgrade

Red Star Belgrade vs Tottenham

A tougher game away from home and it must be remembered that they turned Liverpool over 2-0 here last season. However, I still expect Tottenham to go out and bring back a hard-fought result.

Prediction: Red Star Belgrade 2-1 Tottenham

Tottenham vs Olympiacos

Spurs will be desperate for revenge at home against the Greeks after they came from behind yesterday. Bearing in mind that Spurs should have won last night without playing well at all, I expect a dominant display at home.

Prediction: Tottenham 3-0 Olympiacos

Bayern Munich vs Tottenham

Much like last season, Spurs save the toughest game til last. However, I expect it to be down to these two clubs in terms of qualification at this point in the group.

Prediction: Bayern Munich 2-2 Tottenham

Final thoughts

This would put Tottenham on an unbeaten run in the group stage with 14 points from a possible 18. This would see them qualify top and I would be slightly disappointed by anything less.
