Spurs were so close to signing this Liverpool star and it now seems more costly than ever

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has introduced some absolute stars to the club since his arrival five years ago, but there have also been some missed opportunities.

Poch brought Victor Wanyama and Paulo Gazzaniga into Spurs from his time at Southampton, but he was not able to lure a third in Sadio Mane.

The Times have reported in the past that Spurs were very close to signing Mane before Liverpool, with the winger even visiting the Tottenham training ground and meeting with Poch.

However, Tottenham were unable to get a deal in place and Liverpool ended up signing the player, who has gone on to become an absolute world-beater.

Mane has scored 17 League goals this season, just one behind the golden boot leader Sergio Aguero and level on goals with Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

He has also netted 11 goals in his last 11 games, a worrying stat considering Spurs are Liverpool’s next opponents.
