Spurs would only consider selling defender for over £26m claims journalist

Italian football journalist Ciro Venerato has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur will only consider offers of over €30million (£26million) if they are to sell Ben Davies.

Italian news outlet RAI claimed earlier this week that Napoli had set their sights on the Welshman after initially hoping to lure Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri.

The Serie A outfit were said to be ready to part with £13.7million to land the left-back with Spurs open to selling him.

Venerato has claimed that he has been in communication with Tottenham’s managing director of football, Fabio Paratici who has insisted that the North Londoners are happy to keep hold of Davies unless they receive an offer which they would have to consider.

The left-back has been at Spurs since 2014, having joined from Swansea City and has made 228 appearances in all competitions since making the switch (transfermarkt).

Venerato told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli as quoted by Area Napoli: “Ben Davies in Azzurri? Paratici told me that Tottenham want to keep him, but if he leaves, they would only consider offers over €30 million.”

Sergio Reguilon established himself as Tottenham’s first choice left-back last season and while Davies’ style of play is completely different to the Spaniard, his ability to play also in a central defensive three does make him more of an asset to retain.
