Spurs youngster on loan in Denmark opens up on playing with Tanganga in academy

Tottenham Hotspur youngster, Brandon Austin, has revealed his delight at seeing Japhet Tanganga break into the first-team this season.

The young defender was handed his Premier League debut by Jose Mourinho against Liverpool in January and hasn’t looked back since, putting in several competent displays across the backline.

His performances saw the club take the option to activate a one-year extension in his deal, although the Lilywhites are also said to be in discussions with the defender over a new contract (Football.London).

Austin certainly know a thing or two about what Tangaga can do, having played alongside the centre-half through the youth ranks at Spurs.

The young goalkeeper is currently on loan at Danish side Viborg FF but hasn’t featured much for the club since moving in January with just two appearances to his name (transfermarkt).

However, the 21-year-old did reveal that he was enjoying the challenge in Denmark. He also admitted that he has been following the Lilywhites’ progress and cheering on his mate, Tanganga.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Austin said: “I’m the only English guy at the club (at Viborg FF) but everybody speaks English.

“I’m learning some Danish too but if needs be, everyone speaks English so there’s not a communication problem or anything.

“There are a few of the lads that I’m close with – there’s one from New Zealand, Nikko Boxall, who has played in the New Zealand national team and another lad from Holland, Lars Kramer… I get along well with those two especially.

“I’ve been watching all the Spurs games too. I’ve grown up playing alongside – well, behind – Japhet, so to see him doing so well for the first team has been really good.

“We’re the same age and I speak to him all the time. I’ve seen his performances and I’m really pleased for him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is important we don’t get carried away with Tanganga as he needs to produce over a consistent period of time to warrant the hype that some are already giving him. However, there is no doubt that he seems to have the physical attributes, the technical quality, and the right mentality to evolve into a top defender for us.
