Spurs youngster tipped to become one of the best in the world

Tottenham Hotspur’s Davinson Sanchez can become one of the world’s top defenders according to his former team mate Davy Klaasen.

The pair played together during their time at Ajax and made it to the final of the Europa League in 2007 before losing to Manchester United.

While Klaasen had a failed £25million (Guardian) move to Everton where he made just three Premier League starts, he was shipped off to Wolfsburg this summer for a cut price £12million.

Sanchez, on the other hand, has flourished in the heart of the Tottenham defence, whether it be partnering either of Jan Vertonghen or Toby Alderweireld and even in a back three.

The Colombian international is currently sidelined with a hamstring strain and will miss tonight’s crunch Champions League encounter against Inter Milan at Wembley.

Jan Vertonghen, who has been suffering with a similar problem is expected to come back into the side in the absence of ineligible Juan Foyth.

Klaasen told the Evening Standard: “I think [Davinson Sanchez] does great at the moment,” Klaasen told Goal. “I think from the beginning he was so good and I have no doubt that he will be a top, top player.

“I don’t know where he will go after this, but I’m sure he’ll be one of the best defenders in the world.”
