‘Spursy’ – Gary Lineker mocks Arsenal after 2-0 defeat to Newcastle

Gary Lineker has claimed that Arsenal have gone ‘Spursy’ following the Gunners’ 2-0 loss at St James Park, which came as a big blow to their Champions League hopes.

At various points this season, Arsenal have been the overwhelming favourites to qualify for the Champions League ahead of the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, both of whom sacked their managers midway into the campaign.

However, Mikel Arteta’s men kept repeatedly throwing away opportunities to pull clear of their rivals in the race for fourth place.

Even until a few days ago, Arsenal had a four-point cushion over their North London rivals but two back-to-back defeats against Spurs and Newcastle have left their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League hanging by a thread.

Antonio Conte’s men now only need a point away at Carrow Road in their final game of the season to secure a fourth-place finish while Arsenal would have to beat Everton and hope that Tottenham lose to Norwich in order to finish ahead of their fierce rivals.

Lineker has taken to social media to describe Arsenal’s collapse as ‘Spursy’. Here’s what the former Tottenham striker tweeted:

Spurs Web Opinion

If Spurs get a result against Norwich and finish fourth, this would have been a bigger bottle job by Arsenal than any Spurs have done for over a decade. However, being naturally pessimistic as Tottenham fans, I do not expect us to give it to that lot until we have fourth place sealed at Carrow Road.
