Star admits that being away from Spurs on international duty is ‘nice change of scenery’

Tottenham Hotspur star, Toby Alderweireld, has admitted that being away from Spurs and with his Belgian teammates is a nice change of scenery after the club’s horrific start to the season.

Spurs have already lost three and drawn two in the Premier League, lost 7-2 to Bayern in the Champions League, and been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by a League Two Colchester United.

This seems like a monumental fall from grace after playing in the Champions League Final in Madrid just a few months ago.

This is especially the case when you compared Spurs to Liverpool, who beat them in the final. The Reds have won eight out of eight in the Premier League so far this season.

Alderweireld claims that Spurs must now accept the situation and not panic, insisting that the aim is to get a few wins to get the team back on track.

However, it does seem as if the centre-back is enjoying a break from the Tottenham turmoil.

He said (DH): “A career is made of ups and downs. A few months ago, we were playing in the Champions League finals. It’s proof that everything can change very quickly, whether it’s good or bad.

“You have to accept the current situation and not panic. All we need to do is win a few games to get back on track, but I’m not hiding that being with the national team is a nice change of scenery”.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I would say that Toby has been the club’s best defender so far this season and perhaps the results have been harsh on his individual performances. However, the Belgian has definitely dropped in terms of his form over the past year and perhaps it is time for Spurs to bring in a long-term replacement, with Alderweireld’s contract running down.
