Star player has no hope for Barca game

Tottenham extended their winning streak to three games in all competitions yesterday with a 2-0 victory over Huddersfield, but manager Pochettino will already be looking ahead to Wednesday’s clash with Barcelona.

Spurs were drawn in a Champions League group with the Spanish giants, along with Inter Milan and PSV.

Many fans will consider the Barca game the biggest of their club’s season, which makes it all the more frustrating that five first team players may be unavailable for the game.

Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele were both taken off at half time against Huddersfield, and will be assessed in the coming day.

Hugo Lloris and Christian Eriksen are both still battling to gain fitness for the European tie, but it is highly unlikely that Poch will risk them from the start whatever the case.

One player who the Spurs manager has confirmed will miss the game altogether is Dele Alli, who picked up a reoccurring hamstring injury while playing at his old stomping ground Stadium MK.

When asked if Alli would appear against Barcelona, ESPN report Pochettino replied: “No, no. I don’t know [how long he’ll be out for] because he re-injured the same muscle that he got with England against Spain. It is now so important to be relaxed and calm.”
