Star striker Darwin Nunez opens up on Benfica future amidst Tottenham links

Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, who is reportedly on Tottenham’s radar, has insisted that he does not know what the future holds for him.

Nunez appears to be one of the hottest commodities in European football ahead of the summer transfer window, having found the back of the net on 32 occasions in all competitions so far for Benfica (Transfermarkt).

The Athletic reported last month that agent Jorge Mendes had approached the Uruguayan international about potentially replacing Harry Kane at Spurs.

The Sun subsequently claimed the Benfica star would prefer to join the likes of Spurs and Arsenal over Manchester City, given his physical style of play and desire to get regular game time.

Benfica are expected to demand a fee of around €80m (£66.4m) to let Nunez go this summer (A Bola 12/04/22 via Sport Witness).

However, Nunez has chosen to keep his cards close to his chest when asked about the speculation surrounding his future.

The striker said (via Fabrizio Romano): “I really don’t know what’s gonna happen. But I’m not gonna speak about my future before the end of the season.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that Nunez refused to talk about staying at Benfica next season probably suggests that he wishes to leave. I do not think he is a realistic target for Spurs, given that Harry Kane is expected to stay. However, I do expect the 22-year-old to end up in the Premier League.
