Key statistic shows how important Oliver Skipp is to this Tottenham side

Stats show that Oliver Skipp has completed more than 90 per cent of his passes this season – a figure higher than almost any midfielder in the Premier League.

Tottenham announced this week that Skipp had signed a new contract with the club until 2027. The new deal is a just reward for the youngster after enjoying a breakthrough season since returning from his loan spell at Norwich.

However, the 21-year-old remains out of action as he continues to recover from his pelvic problem, with reports indicating there is still no return date (Charlie Eccleshare).

While Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur have formed a formidable partnership in the middle of the park over the last couple of months, there is no doubting Skipp’s importance to the side.

While the Spurs academy graduate is known for his tenacity and aggression, stats show that he is also technically proficient and is able to retain the ball better than most midfielders in the division.

According to SofaScore, Skipp has a pass completion of 90.06 per cent this season, which is the highest of any Tottenham player and the 13th highest in the Premier League from regular starters.

The top ten is dominated by central defenders, which only makes Skipp’s numbers even more impressive.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am personally not the biggest of believers in pass completion stats as the players leading the list generally tend to play low-risk passes.

However, Skipp’s technical quality on the ball is quite underrated and that is the one area where he arguably offers more than Hojbjerg.

I am excited to see how a Skipp-Bentancur partnership will fare but it seems like we will have to wait until next season for that.
