Statistics reveal contrasting performances of Kulusevski and Son in FA Cup exit

Tottenham stars Dejan Kulusevski and Heung-min Son endured two contrasting evenings during the club’s 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.

Spurs were eliminated from the competition by the Championship outfit on Tuesday when substitute Josh Coburn lashed home the game’s only goal in extra time.

Antonio Conte’s men struggled to impose their dominance on proceedings throughout and squandered a handful of chances in front of goal when handed the opportunity.

And one of the players who didn’t enjoy his evening at the Riverside Stadium was Son, whose statistics reflected Tottenham’s poor showing.

According to SofaScore, the South Korea international conceded possession for Spurs on 24 occasions, as well as missing two big chances.

But in contrast, Son’s teammate and January signing Kulusevski gave a good account of himself despite his side’s exit in poor fashion.

The 21-year-old, who has started life in North London positively, was intent on trying to make something happen for Spurs from his position to the right of Harry Kane.

SofaScore notes that he misplaced just three of his 38 passes against Middlesborough for a completion rate of 92 per cent.

Creatively, Kulusevski completed both of his dribbles as well as producing three key passes for his teammates – the second highest out of any Spurs player.

You could see that Kulusevski was trying to make something happen on a poor evening for Spurs, although it didn’t always come off. Son was trying too of course, but for whatever reason nothing would stick for him and the ball would just bounce off or away from him.
