Stellini explains whether he expects Conte to return for Spurs vs Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur assistant head coach, Cristian Stellini, has revealed that he does not expect Antonio Conte to return in time for the game against Chelsea next weekend.

However, Stellini, who continued his 100% record in charge of Spurs today with a 2-0 win over West Ham United, did add that Conte should be back in time for the Champions League round of 16 second leg against AC Milan, or perhaps even the FA Cup game just before that.

This reinforces what The Telegraph reported earlier in the week when they stated Conte was expected to return to London in time for the AC Milan game on March 8th.

Between now and then, Spurs have two Premier League fixtures against Chelsea and Wolves, and an FA Cup match versus Sheffield United.

It was announced by Tottenham last week that Conte would continue to recover in Italy after the head coach himself admitted that he rushed himself back from gallbladder surgery too quickly.

Stellini said (Football London): “No I’m not expecting Antonio back for Chelsea but I’m expecting him back for the next week. Milan or we have the FA Cup.

“Maybe not Chelsea but we don’t know. If he feels well and he can live stress without some pain or feeling something strange he’ll be back.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

The main thing is that Conte looks after his health and only comes back when he is well enough to coach without compromising his recovery. In the mean time, Stellini and Mason have been doing a fine job, so Tottenham are in good hands.
