Tottenham Hotspur assistant head coach, Cristian Stellini, confirmed that he received a phone call from Antonio Conte during the celebrations in the dressing room this evening following his side’s 1-0 win over reigning champions, Manchester City.

Conte was absent from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and England in general, as he continues to rest in Italy following his successful gallbladder surgery in the week (Daily Mail).

Spurs continued their fine run of form at home to Pep Guardiola’s side with yet another victory and yet another clean sheet, courtesy of Harry Kane’s first-half goal.

Not only was Kane’s strike good enough to win the game, but the striker also became the outright Tottenham all-time top goalscorer, overtaking the late Jimmy Greaves with his 267th goal (Daily Mail).

Conte was spotted on the phone to Kane in the dressing room after the match to congratulate his centre-forward (SkySports), and Stellini has now commented on the call.

He said (Football London): “Yes we spoke with Antonio in the dressing room. Immediately when we arrived Antonio was on the phone and he say he was really happy.

“He gave compliments to everyone and especially to Harry for the record he achieved. It was amazing, he was really happy and he gave them the day off tomorrow. They enjoy a lot this moment.”

When asked if Arsenal will be happy with Spurs, Stellini said: “I don’t know. I am not Arteta. I think so but we are happy. We think about our squad, we think about our result, we are happy to win this game and it is not so important.”

Asked if he had received a text from Arteta, he added: “No, but I spoke to Antonio and that is the best thing for me.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I’m so happy for Stellini and the rest of the Spurs staff who put so much effort in this week in the absence of Conte. Stellini has managed two games now and has a 100 per cent record, which I’m sure Tim Sherwood is very proud of him for. Congratulations, guys!
