Steven Bergwijn admits players are determined to win silverware this season

Steven Bergwijn has admitted that the Tottenham Hotspur players are determined to get their hands on silverware this season.

The current Premier League season is turning out to be one of the most unpredictable campaigns in history, with almost all sides seemingly capable of beating each other.

Even though we are now about to head into January, the table does not seem to have settled down as of yet, with a couple of results still potentially making a huge difference in terms of league positions.

It was not that long ago that Tottenham were sitting at the top of the table but some recent results have thrown question marks over whether Jose Mourinho’s men are capable of challenging for the title.

However, Bergwijn is confident that Spurs can challenge near the top of the table and admitted that the players are determined to break the club’s trophy drought this season.

The Dutchman told Sky Sports: “Last season was difficult because we had a lot of injuries and we finished sixth, a lot of points behind Liverpool and many clubs.

“Now we are in the race and everybody knows that we can achieve something with each other.

“We have a big manager, of course, who has won a lot of trophies. Now we want to win trophies as well.”

The winger also stressed the need of sticking together as a squad even if some results do not go their way.

The 23-year-old added: “It is very important that we stick together. In football, these things [bad runs of form] happen in a season and it is still the beginning of the season. We have a lot of games left to play.”
