Steven Bergwijn nominated for Premier League season award against likes of Kevin de Bruyne

Steven Bergwijn has been nominated for the Premier League Game Changer of the Season award for his stunning late double in Tottenham’s win over Leicester.

The prize, new to the 2021-22 campaign, will be awarded to one of six players who are voted to have produced the most game-changing performance from across the season.

And Spurs winger Bergwijn has earned a spot on the shortlist for his heroics coming off the bench against Leicester in January.

With Antonio Conte’s man trailing 2-1 with more than 94 minutes played at the King Power Stadium, the Netherlands international struck twice in 79 seconds during stoppage-time to completely turn the game on its head.

While the goals were the first that Bergwijn scored for Spurs away from home, the match was the latest a team had ever been losing in the Premier League before going on to win.

Bergwijn’s moment has been nominated alongside Paul Pogba for his four assists in Manchester United’s opening day win over Leeds, Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for his save against Leicester’s James Maddison and Cristiano Ronaldo for his hat-trick against Spurs.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne has earned a spot for his four-goal haul against Wolves this month and teammate Ilkay Gundogan for his title-clinching display on the final day of the campaign with two goals off the bench against Aston Villa.

Voting for the Castrol Game Changer of the Season award is open until 3 pm on Friday, May 27 and you can vote for Bergwijn by clicking the link here.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is the least surprising nomination on the list as that performance against Leicester was just incredible and so clutch.

Tottenham performed so well against Leicester and were unfortunate to be trailing at that point, but for whatever reason something clicked into gear and Bergwijn was clinical with both of his efforts.
