Steven Gerrard lauds ‘world class’ Kane and Son and makes Kulusevski prediction

Steven Gerrard has praised the way Tottenham’s front three of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski operated as they dismantled his Aston Villa side 4-0 on Saturday.

Spurs claimed a vital three points at Villa Park as they consolidated fourth-place in the Premier League ahead of fellow Champions League chasers Arsenal.

Heung-min Son tallied his sixth career hat-trick to power Spurs to victory, while Dejan Kulusevski maintained his strong run of form by netting his third goal for the club.

However, the win for Antonio Conte’s men did not come in easy circumstances despite the scoreline, after hosts Villa pinned Spurs back for the vast majority of the first half having fallen behind early.

And despite seeing his team fall to a fourth consecutive defeat, Gerrard could only give credit to the way Tottenham’s front men picked apart Villa in the second half. He also predicted that Kulusevski could become a ‘top player’ in the future.

He said (via Football.London): “They’ve got two world class players up top and the young lad from Juventus who could certainly be a top player.”

He added: “First half best performance we’ve had together. I can’t remember any times I’ve been so proud going off a pitch at 1-0 down.

“The first goal we didn’t deal with the long ball well and that’s a fault of ours. But then I felt we suffocated Tottenham and created more than enough chances to win numerous games.

“I thought the second goal was a real blow for us. Real quality from Tottenham’s point of view and poor defending on our part. The third and fourth goals were them making it all about our back line. They were clinical.”

Son was lethal in putting away his attempts today, while Kulusevski took his chance so well to pad Spurs’ lead in the second half.

Kane never managed to net himself, but was instrumental in setting up two of the goals directly with his excellent link-up play.

When all three are on song, they are very hard to stop and Gerrard’s team was just the latest to be on the receiving end of that.
