Ange Postecoglou has said that Tottenham still have work to do to get to the level they want to but admitted there have been many promising signs already.

It is fair to say that most Spurs fans were prepared for a rocky start to the season, given Harry Kane’s departure and the fact that Postecoglou was implementing a footballing philosophy that was completely different to what the players had been used to over the last three years.

However, the Lilywhites have made a near-perfect start to the season, with three wins and a draw in their first four Premier League games, with the players already appearing to be quite familiar with their roles in the new system.

The only blip so far came in the Carabao Cup second-round tie at Craven Cottage last week when a weakened Spurs side went out on penalties.

Postecoglou has praised his players for the way they have navigated the challenges thrown at them so far this season, remarking that they have already shown plenty of character and belief.

Postecoglou is seeing positive early signs at Spurs

Following Tottenham’s 5-2 win at Turf Moor, he told the club’s official website: “Even (at Fulham) in midweek, I know everyone was disappointed, but we hung in there, and we’ve showed that already.

“At Brentford, we were 2-1 down and fought our way through that (drew 2-2), we’ve had four away games (out of five), we know they’re not easy and I think the way the lads have navigated that has been outstanding.

“Then, in the home game we had (2-0 win against Manchester United), they were brilliant. From our perspective, while we’re still really early in terms of trying to build this team, there are some real good signs there around the character and belief they have.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While it is understandably why Spurs fans are overjoyed with the football that Ange has got the team playing, it is important that we temper expectations and not get carried away with the start we have made.

There are many tougher tests ahead and we will get blown away on one or two occasions by top sides, given our high-risk approach. That is very much part of the process of eventually becoming a team that can go toe-to-toe with the best sides in the league.
