Striker claims he used to throw Tottenham defender around in training

Ollie McBurnie has joked during a Q/A on his Instagram Live that he used to ‘throw’ Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon about during training sessions.

The pair played together at Swansea City, with McBurnie first to depart the Liberty Stadium when he made the move to then Premier League outfit Sheffield United with Rodon departing for Tottenham during last summer’s transfer window.

McBurnie first joked about the size of Rodon’s head when he was posed the question by one of the Instagram users.

Rodon, who is currently on international duty with Wales at Euro 2020 made 19 appearances in all competitions for Spurs last season and started all four of Jose Mourinho’s final four Premier League matches before the Portuguese was sacked.

The 23-year-old struggled to make an impression under interim head coach Ryan Mason, having been left out of the squad for six of his seven matches in charge, only playing a single minute in the final game of the season as a late sub at Leicester City.

“It’s way too big for his body because he’s skinny as owt,” McBurnie said tongue in cheek.

“I used to throw him around in training. And he will tell you that himself.”

Rodon has the raw talent to become a long-term fixture in the Spurs defence, it will be interesting to see how much opportunity he will be given to prove himself next season with the club said to be already in the market for a new central defender.
