Tottenham Hotspur may be reconsidering their reported interest in Jonathan David right now, as the Lille striker is suffering something of a goal drought.
When Harry Kane left Spurs for Bayern Munich this summer, everyone expected the North London side to sign a big name striker to replace him.
That didn’t happen, with Ange Postecoglou choosing to rely on Heung-min Son to lead the line. That plan has worked so far, with Son hitting eight goals already this season (Transfermarkt).
With injuries throughout the squad, there’s every chance Postecoglou will want to reinforce his attacking options. One name linked to Spurs in the past, is Jonathan David (90Min).
It’s not hard to see why, either. The Canadian forward bagged 26 goals in all competitions last season for Lille (Transfermarkt).

Jonathan David suffers poor form
Now, however, David has gone ten games without a goal in Ligue 1, and has just two league goals to his name all season (Transfermarkt). That’s not the kind of form that secures you a move to the Premier League, of course.
With just one assist in his last ten matches, David has even been benched at times by his club, something which would have seemed impossible last year.
But, his boss Paulo Fonseca is not too concerned, and still believes his player will end up moving on.
He told TuttoMercatoWeb: “We know it will be difficult to stay with him in the future. I think he can play in Serie A, in England, I think he has the qualities to play in the best teams in the world.”
Spurs Web Opinion
This is the kind of thing I’m always wary of when we are linked to strikers who have one incredible season. You never know if they will continue that and become a top striker, or if it was just a purple patch.
