Striker reveals former Spurs boss lost dressing room when he banned apple crumble

Darren Bent has revealed that Juande Ramos lost the Tottenham dressing room the moment he decided to ban apple crumble.

Ramos was brought in to replace Martin Jol after Tottenham started the 2007/08 season in poor fashion on the back of consecutive fifth-place finishes in the two previous campaigns.

The Spaniard’s arrival certainly seemed to rejuvenate the squad, with the Lilywhites going on to secure the League Cup that season, thrashing Arsenal 5-1 in the semi-finals and overcoming Chelsea in the final.

It was hoped that Ramos would be the man to help Spurs take that extra step and finally break into the top four but the team had a disastrous start to the former Sevilla boss’ first full season in charge.

With the Lilywhites languishing at the bottom of the table with just two points from their first eight league games, Daniel Levy decided to pull the plug on Ramos and bring in Harry Redknapp.

Bent has revealed that Ramos had lost the dressing room soon after he arrived as a result of trying to change too much.

He told FourFourTwo magazine (as relayed by The Daily Star): “He just tried to change too much too quickly – it was too extreme. He removed so many things that players were used to and it was really tough.

“Listen, he won us the League Cup and I understand that continental managers have a way of doing things, and expect everyone to be a certain weight, but it was a real shock to the system.

“The apple crumble was the one – the moment he removed that he lost the dressing room!”
