Stuart Pearce doesn’t believe this Spurs star is good enough to play for England

Tottenham Hotspur will have to put their defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League behind them if they are to grow and win trophies in the coming seasons.

This applies to the England contingent more than most, as they prepare for the Nations League finals this week.

Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, and Danny Rose are all in Gareth Southgate’s squad to face the Netherlands on Thursday, with Trippier and Winks both cut from the preliminary team.

However, the majority of the Tottenham boys hardly come into the fixture in inspired form, with Harry Kane recently returning from nearly two months out injured, Eric Dier struggling for game time, and Dele Alli off the back of some poor performances.

Stuart Pearce has now claimed that Dele Alli will struggle to play from the start for England in the upcoming internationals, as he believes he had little impact on the Champions League final.

Pearce said (The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show on TalkSPORT – 03/06/19 8:36 am): “I didn’t think he had an impact in the game the other night. I almost felt as though he might miss out and Moura might start the game leading into the game because Moura is the one showing a little bit of form before the Champions League (final). I think his place will be under threat with the England team over these two games.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I would tend to agree with Stuart Pearce on this matter. Dele Alli has been in pretty poor form for the majority of this season, and perhaps he needs the motivation of being dropped to get him going again. I think England have more in-form players in the current squad. However, Harry Kane will likely earn a starting spot, purely because he is captain, even if he had no impact against Liverpool either.
