‘Stunning’ – Alan Shearer names two Spurs stars in his PL Team of the Week

Alan Shearer has heaped praise on Guglielmo Vicario for his brilliant display in Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest, while he also named Dejan Kulusevski in his Team of the Week.

Vicario was almost a complete unknown to fans of the Premier League when he arrived in the summer, even though his reputation had been growing rapidly in Serie A.

Since arriving in North London in the summer, the Italian has not put a foot wrong and his reputation has been growing with each game.

Not only has he proven to be an excellent shot stopper but he has also shown excellent judgement in coming out of his line and in helping Ange Posteocoglou’s men build from the back.

Vicario has been coming in for plenty of praise from pundits, with Jamie Carragher describing the Tottenham number one as ‘sensational’ last month (Sky Sports MNF via TEAMtalk).

Former Premier League goalkeepers have also spoken in glowing terms about the Spurs man, with Paul Robinson admitting in the official Tottenham podcast recently that he has been thoroughly impressed by the Italian.

Meanwhile, former Stoke City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen told The Optus Sport Football Podcast a few weeks ago that while he had some doubts about Vicario initially, the former Empoli man has won him over, naming him as the best goalkeeper across the Premier League so far this season.

Alan Shearer heaps praise on Vicario and Kulusevski

Shearer has now joined Vicario’s long list of admirers, with the Newcastle legend being mightily impressed with what the Tottenham man produced at the City Ground.

The pundit told the Premier League website about the goalkeeper following Spurs’ 2-0 win over Forest: “Produced some stunning saves and got a well-earned clean sheet.”

On Kulusevski, he added: “Delivered a wonderful cross for Richarlison’s opener and produced a smashing finish to secure the win for Spurs.”

Vicario’s shot-stopping is undoubtedly up there with the best in the world. If there is one area that the Italian can improve on, it is while coming for crosses as he sometimes seems to be caught in no-man’s land while coming to claim corner kicks.
