Summer signing admits it feels like he has been at Spurs for ’10 years’ already

Destiny Udogie has admitted that he already feels at home at Tottenham, explaining that the transition to life at the North London club has proven quite straightforward for him.

There was quite a lot of player turnover at Spurs in the summer ahead of the start of a new era under Ange Postecoglou.

Given the number of new faces that have come in and the club’s new-look leadership group, one would have expected the squad to take some time to gel together.

However, instead, there already appears to be a great sense of camaraderie among the players, as evidenced by some of the celebrations after their recent wins.

Udogie has now been seeking his move to the club, admitting that having his compatriot Guglielmo Vicario has helped him settle in quickly.

The left-back told Tottenham’s matchday programme ahead of the clash against Liverpool (via Football.London): “When I signed for Spurs, it was the biggest dream. From where I started before and then to sign for the club, it’s like it wasn’t real.

“It was a dream come true but now I’m here so I want to show my quality, to prove myself and help my teammates and I will give my best every day to make sure I keep improving and achieve more here.

“The whole team was really nice [when I joined]. I was lucky Vic came at the same time, but everyone helped me to settle in easily. It was perfect for me to have teammates like them because, once I came, it was like I’d known them for 10 years.”

This new-look Spurs side has also succeeded in connecting with the fan base in a way that the Tottenham sides of the last few years failed to do.

The atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been quite electric in the three home games so far this season, and Udogie believes that visiting teams coming to the venue will be up against it.

The 20-year-old said about playing at home: “The stadium, the fans and the atmosphere in the stadium is incredible! I think playing at home, it’s going to be really tough to play against us.”

The general feel-good factor and vibes around the squad at the minute are quite similar to what it was back in 2015 towards the start of the Pochettino era when we had a similarly talented young squad. While it is still early days, it feels like we could be at the start of something quite special.
