Reports in the Sunday press are claiming that Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is targeting Bordeaux left-back Benoit Tremoulinas.

According to the News of the World, the 24-year-old, who has three years left on his current deal in France is interesting Tottenham as they prepare for their Champions League campaign.

Tremoulinas was named in the French league’s Team of the Year this season.

With Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Gareth Bale already at the club, Spurs fans will be scratching their heads if this is a sensible move.

  1. Well, I for one, would not be 'scratching my head' if this rumour is true. If we're to make a serious impact in the Champions League – assuming we qualify – then we need a quality left-back, as Ekotto is not good enough in my opinion and is often caught out of position and makes too many mistakes. It's also no secret that Gareth Bale is by far, a much better left winger than he is as a left-back.

I've read up on Tremoulinas, and apparantly he is an attacking left-back with very good assists and is also supposed to be a very good crosser of the ball.

I say, bring it on, and if we can also sign Micah Richards to challenge Ćorluka for the right-back position, then that is the back four pretty much sorted for me as Richards, like Ćorluka, can also cover at centre-half if required.

  2. Good move. Bale is a winger… or wing-back… not a left back, so this makes perfect sense. Assou-Ekotto has improved, but his performance at Man Yoo scared the life out of me! If Tremoulinas is an improvement then we'd do well to bring the lad in.

  3. BALE IS A WORLD CLASS WING LEFT HALF OR INDEED A LEFT WINGER HE IS OUR LEFT SIDED GERRARD , AND AS WE ALL READY HAVE EKOTTO SURLEY THE LEFT BACK I THINK ITS NAUGHTON IS WELL FULL ENOUGH COVER INFACT I BELIEVE NAUGHTON SHOULD BE IN FRONT OF EKOTTO .

  4. I'd like to see a quality LB with CL experience come in someone like Philip Lahm, who could do a job for a couple season while overseeing the progress of the younger ones, giving them thier chances in cup game and against newly promoted or struggling teams in the prem… I'd love to see Micah Richards come to Spurs, that would make my summer,… A LB, M.Richards and a STR! and I'd be happy, "know what I mean Harry!"

  5. assou-ekotto is simply not good enough, a new left back is one of our priortys. He is our weak link and a liability!

    • ekotto in my eyes is one of our best defenders ahead of corluka, kaboul, and woodagate. he is a quality left back and he has ability to keep the ball and never loose it his controll, clearing and skill on the ball is spectacular. to be honest i dont have a clue what you are talking about !

  6. I think this would be a great move most spurs fans know that ekotto is not good enough. Bale has payed well at left back and could be good cover i agree that it would be good if we get richards as i think harry will get the best out of him.
