Super-agent reveals Spurs have held talks with Man Utd attacker over transfer

Italian super-agent Roberto De Fanti has claimed that Tottenham have spoken to Marcus Rashford’s representatives regarding a potential transfer but added that the North London club do not think he is a realistic target this summer.

Antonio Conte is said to be intent on signing a versatile striker, who can also operate out wide, with Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus thought to be among those on the Italian’s wishlist (The Telegraph).

Another player who would fit that description is Rashford, who has endured the most challenging season of his career since breaking into the United first team as a teenager.

The 25-year-old struggled to get a run of starts under his belt in 2021/22 and finished the campaign with just five goals in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

De Fanti has now revealed that despite Rashford’s struggles this season, United value the forward at around £70m to £80m – a price that the Red Devils are confident no one will pay this summer.

The agent added that Spurs did have conversations with the England international’s representatives but Conte’s men no longer see the United star as a realistic target.

De Fanti told CaughtOffside about Rashford: “All the top sides in Spain and Italy have been keen to enquire about Marcus Rashford’s availability and the possibility of him leaving United this summer.

“Prior to any discussions, a valuation of around £40m, maybe £50m, seemed fair, but it turns out the attacker would cost a lot more – between £70m and £80m.

“United are confident a club is unlikely to pay that, especially off the back of a poor season, so they’re almost certain he will stay.

“They are happy for Rashford to stay too, also because they know that if they did sell him, they would need to replace him and that is not a priority, definitely not this summer anyway.

“It seems there have been some discussions very recently between the player’s camp and Tottenham Hotspur. The London club feel negotiating a deal for Rashford is virtually impossible though – so that transfer no longer seems an option.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Rashford is a talented footballer and has been mismanaged a bit over the last few years. I can see him doing well in Conte’s system. However, he certainly is not worth upwards of £50m or £60m as I do not see the 25-year-old evolving into a player who can get you 20 goals every season.
